A Bride's Nightmare: Dharma Events

While the end product of Dharma Event's service was commendable, the journey to get there was nothing short of a nightmare. In the midst of the joyous chaos that is wedding planning, working with Shaloo proved to be the most excruciating part of the process.

We collaborated with over ten different vendors for our wedding, and it was only Shaloo’s service that gave us trouble. This alone should speak volumes about the level of professionalism (or lack thereof) that we encountered.

The most glaring issue was the complete lack of transparency. We were left in the dark throughout the process, unsure of what to expect next. This was not helped by the fact that we never received an actual contract or payment schedule. Instead, Shaloo would casually ask us to send her money just two days before she wanted payment. This lack of formal procedure and last-minute demands added unnecessary stress to an already hectic time.

Furthermore, Shaloo’s communication was inconsistent and unreliable. She would constantly change what she said on the phone versus what she would include in her emails. This led to confusion and misunderstandings, further complicating the process.

An incident during my wedding further exemplifies the issues with Dharma Events. Despite having communicated my preferences multiple times, Shaloo failed to bring the requested decor items. When I, the bride, called her to ask, she yelled at me, demanding that I show her proof I had asked for those items. This is just one example of Shaloo not remembering requests, failing to keep track, and then blaming me for changing my mind.

In conclusion, while the end result was satisfactory, the path to get there was filled with unnecessary hurdles and stress, courtesy of Shaloo's behavior. I would advise future brides and grooms to consider this review before deciding to work with Shaloo. Remember, a beautiful wedding is not just about the end product, but also about the journey of planning it. Choose vendors who respect that journey.

DO NOT USE— STOLEN DEPOSIT— we hired this business back in October 2022 after our meeting. They requested a $2000 deposit to hold the date. We paid this deposit and did not receive a “contract” for 5 months (we would ask every two weeks). The contract we received had the wrong dates, and was blank— with a $22,000 subtotal at the bottom (no price breakdown). We requested a detailed quote, met with them again. They then provided the exact same quote, with added items from our meeting with a note to “subtotal it ourselves”— which was near $35,000 (our discussed budget was 20-25 for reference). Our deposit was given one year before our event, we had zero understanding of what we were praying for or what our event would look like 3 months before our actual wedding date.

We ended up firing them 7 weeks out and going with a different decorator. They kept our deposit even though no services were provided. This is an unprofessional business that made the already stressful process much worse— you can find much better decorators in the area for the same price and better quality.

After our event, we were grateful we went with a different direction.

Shaloo is an amazing decorator but most importantly she’s a better human being. From the first time I sat with her she was honest and forthcoming. I told her exactly what I wanted, how I envisioned my wedding, and she delivered beyond my expectations. She gave me sincere advice as if she was a family member of mine. My Nikkah (engagement ceremony) was beautiful. Everyone is asking me who did my decoration. Thank you so much Shaloo for being a wonderful human being who really loves what she does. She’ll never low ball you or get you to do something you don’t want. She’s honest from the beginning and will work with whatever budget or image you have in mind. I can’t thank you enough Shaloo, my whole family and friends from the DMV area and abroad loved your final work. Many, many, many thanks from the bottom of my heart!
