About
I visited this store about three weeks ago to shop for an Eid outfit. I was impressed by the size of the store and the men’s selection tucked away in the back. When I asked for a navy vest, two women were eager to help, which I appreciated. I liked the vest and asked for the price, but was surprised to hear it was $120—especially since it was quite plain, with simple buttons and no embellishments. I showed them photos of nearly identical options online for $40, and once I was about to put the vest down, one of the women offered a steep discount. I truly appreciated that flexibility.
What I didn’t appreciate, however, were some of the remarks made during the negotiation. I wasn’t trying to bargain aggressively—I simply didn’t see the value in paying $120 for something so basic, and was prepared to walk away. But when I put the vest down, one of the women asked, “How much would you like to pay?” Then she added, “It’s an XL, so it’s a lot of cloth.” For a vest? That comment felt unnecessary and, frankly, a little demeaning. Are we really pricing based on body size? Should I try to squeeze into a medium to save money?
At checkout, the woman ringing us up was polite and helpful. However, another woman—who had been in the back—came forward and told her, “Don’t give them the fancy bag with the store name,” and made sure we were handed a plain plastic bag instead. That struck me as petty and unnecessary.
Overall, it was a mixed experience. I genuinely appreciated the helpfulness and willingness to work with me on the price. But all customers deserve a basic level of dignity—without backhanded remarks or judgment based on their body size or appearance.
