Chicago sherwani shopping—who actually lets grooms try stuff on?

Hi all! Quick q for any couples based in or near Chicago: where are y’all shopping for groomswear?? Specifically sherwanis. We’ve been to 2 stores so far and both were super pushy + didn’t let my fiancé properly try things on. One just kept saying, "This will fit, no need to wear it." We’re doing mostly traditional fits but want to make sure he can move, sit, breathe... you know, exist. Would love suggestions for shops where: 1. They carry options for different body types 2. The staff are patient + let you TRY things on 3. Bonus if they do in-house alterations! Appreciate any recs! 🙏

You deff should try Studio Elite on Devon! They let my brother-in-law try on 4 diff sherwanis and even pinned the sides for mock alterations to show the final fit. Super patient staff.

Can confirm Studio Elite was great for us too. Found them right here on Laali. But avoid "Fashion World" unless you want to be told everything looks fine while you’re still half in the sleeve 😅

co-signing Studio Elite lol. also worth checking out "Avtaar"—aunty energy but they actually did let us try + pinned stuff right away. prices were reasonable if u don’t mind a little digging.

We had a surprisingly good experience at Tabarruj also on Devon. A bit more contemporary, but they had sherwanis and bandhgalas with size range up to 52 and let my partner take his time.

I just want to say I relate so much—some stores assume every groom is a 38R mannequin 🙄 We ended up tailoring from scratch. If you're open to that, let me know, I can share the tailor contact!

@anon YES, the mannequin thing is so real. The amount of side-eyes we got for asking to sit down in the outfit 😭

@Anonymous if it helps, I just call ahead and ask for "private try-on time"—some of them will block off a quieter slot esp on weekday mornings. Worth asking!

Omg yes. Early weekday = best. Less crowded, less rushy sales ppl, and more chill trying-on time.

As someone who has coordinated many weddings in Chicago, I always suggest weekday fittings. The stores that don’t let you try on? Usually also the ones who’ll mess up fittings later tbh.

@anonymous that’s actually SO good to know 😮 makes total sense. We’ll go midweek now for sure. Thank you everyone again!! 🥹💛
